Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy consists of the hands-on treatment of soft tissue for the purpose of increasing metabolism and the activity of the circulatory and lymphatic systems. Massage therapy can also help decrease tension and improve relaxation in the muscles.


Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a primary care, patient-focused health profession dedicated to improve quality of life by promoting movement, preventing disease, and managing acute and chronic conditions through the use of therapeutic exercises, and other interventions.

Claire Thomas PT, MScPT, BPE, AFCI, CGIMS

Claire graduated from the University of Alberta with a Master’s of Science Degree in Physiotherapy and a Bachelor’s Degree of Physical Education. During this time she played varsity soccer for the University of Alberta, Red Deer College and the FISU Universiade Team. Claire has completed her Intermediate Diploma in Manual and Manipulative therapy. She is licensed in Medical Acupuncture and is a certified Gunn IMS practitioner. Claire is registered on the Alberta Physiotherapists Imaging Roster which allows her the ability to refer patients for diagnostic imaging. Claire has also worked as a contractor for the Canadian Sports Institute Calgary, she has worked and travelled with the Canadian National Luge Team and Speed Skating Canada. She has also worked and traveled with Alberta Lacrosse, Local Box Lacrosse Teams and has done physiotherapy coverage for International Netball competitions. Claire likes to treat a variety of injuries and her treatment approach combines education, manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, modalities, acupuncture and IMS to help her patients reach their rehabilitation goals. Claire joined Silverado Sport Physio in 2013.

Andy graduated with distinction from McMaster University in 2000 with an Honours Bachelor of Kinesiology degree before receiving his Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Western Ontario in 2003. Since then, Andy has completed several specialized post-graduate courses. He became a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physical Therapy in 2008. In 2010 he became a Certified Gunn IMS Practitioner. More recently, Andy was added to the roster of Physiotherapists in Alberta who are able to order diagnostic imaging for their patients. Over the years, Andy has provided on-field coverage in events such as the Ontario Winter Games, the National Netball Championships, and the PGA Nationwide Alberta Open. He has also worked as a team Physiotherapist for the Brazilian Bobsled program. In January 2013, Andy opened Silverado Sport Physiotherapy located in the southwest of Calgary, Alberta.

Kara received her Masters of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Alberta in 2014. Prior to this, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology at the University of Calgary. While at school, Kara had the opportunity to further her knowledge in the area of rehabilitation by working with a variety of groups, including the University of Alberta Spinal Disorders Lab, University of Calgary Sport Injury Prevention Research Centre, and the University of Calgary Rehabilitation & Fitness program.

Kara has undergone additional post-graduate training with the Orthopaedic Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. She received her CAFCI designation from Acupuncture Canada in 2016, and her Gunn IMS certification in 2020. She has recently been added to the roster of physiotherapists in Alberta who are able to order select diagnostic imaging for their patients.

Kara enjoys treating a variety of injuries and conditions, and strives to help her patients achieve their movement goals through functional exercise, education, and manual therapy. She joined Silverado Sport Physiotherapy in January 2015.
